5 Easy Ayurvedic Daily Practices

Tongue Scraping

In Ayurveda, it is important to start your morning with the practice of tongue scraping. Toxins and bacteria live in the mouth area and if we do not remove them, the tongue will reabsorb the toxins into the body. This can cause imbalances that could affect digestion, immunity, and skin.

Before brushing your teeth, use a tongue scraper or even your toothbrush, gently place it on the back of your tongue. Apply gentle pressure as you move it forward to scrape the bacteria from your tongue. Repeat for 10 times.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling has been raved by many wellness advocates for its ability to improve oral health, the jaw, and gums, remove bad breath, stains, and whiten teeth. It also helps remove oil-soluble toxins that are sitting in the mouth, assisting in the production of saliva which helps with proper digestion.

Swish around 1 tbsp of oil, you can use Coconut Oil, Sesame Oil, or Almond Oil for 10-20 minutes.

Drink Room Temperature or Warm Water

According to Ayurveda, when we drink ice-cold water, it slows the entire body system including blood flow. In the long run, it can affect your digestive process, metabolism, and sometime lead to constipation. Opt for room temperature water or warm water as it helps to minimize bloating issues and metabolism concerns.

Dry Brushing

Here at Sahajan, we are obsessed with the practice of dry brushing (Garshana). It is a great way to help unclog pores and detoxify, improve overall circulation, and oxygen to the skin. It helps to stimulate your lymphatic system, which removes the buildup of toxins away from the tissue, helps to reduce cellulite, and exfoliate dead skin cells.

Start at the legs, brush is upward strokes towards the heart – putting extra time and focus on the joints. Move upwards towards the arms and chest continuing in upwards strokes towards the heart. When you get towards the abdomen, brush in a counter-clockwise motion.

Self-Oil Massage

After dry brushing your body, your skin becomes dry and exposed and it is very important to moisturize and nurture your skin.

According to Ayurveda, once you’ve finished dry brushing your skin becomes dry and exposed and it’s very important to moisturize and nurture your skin. It is believed that you shouldn’t put anything on your body that you wouldn’t consume. Opt for oils that are light and fast absorbing like our Ritual Body Oil, which has a blend of 7 organic oils to help deeply penetrate the layers of the skin, that results in soft, hydrated, and glowing skin.

Warm a few drops body oil into the palm of your hands and apply to the skin starting at the legs and work your way up towards the arms, abdomen, and chest. Following the similar patterns of dry brushing, use upward strokes with slight pressure towards the heart. Not only will it nourish your skin, but the upward strokes will also help circulate the blood and lymph in the body for maximum detoxification.
