Day 3: Relieve headaches with Uttanasana

We’ve all been there. It’s been a long day at work, and just as you’re about to relax and scroll through your phone, you feel that pounding headache slowly settling in. Headaches are caused by stress, muscle tension, lack of hydration or even loud noises. Yoga can help alleviate the symptoms of a headache and, with continued practice, reduce the frequency of headaches as well. Uttanasana is a great pose for improving blood circulation, stretching the entire body and relieving that nagging headache.

How to:

Stand with your feet together. Slowly bend forward at the waist, touch your toes, or plant your palms firmly on the ground. If you cannot go all the way, bend as far as you can comfortably or rest your hands on a yoga block.

  • Increases blood circulation to head and brain area
  • Stretches hamstrings
  • Can relieve tension and headache pain

Even if you aren’t experiencing a headache, the deep hamstring stretch is simply enough to gain something from this pose.
