Day 4: Improve menstrual health with Baddha Konasana

Dealing with painful cramps? Practicing specific yoga poses during your menstrual cycle can help ease these symptoms and can be a great form of light exercise. Baddha Konasana or the butterfly pose is ideal for relieving period symptoms, stretching the hips and groin and maintaining a healthy menstrual cycle. 


How to:

Come to a seated position. Bring the soles of your feet together. Keep your spine straight as possible. Grab your feet with each of your hands and place your elbows on your inner thighs. You can remain here and feel the stretch, or you can gently flap your thighs up and down.

  • Alleviates period cramps
  • Strengthens and improves flexibility in inner thighs and groin
  • It opens up the pelvic region 

Whether you’re on your period or not, butterfly pose is great for improving your flexibility and stretching your hip and groin muscles that are not often stretched. Even if your knees don’t touch the floor, don’t worry, they will in time.
