Refreshing Chia Seed Water

Refreshing Chia Seed Water

A simple Ayurvedic ritual for warm summer days.

In Ayurveda, balance often begins with the small rituals we return to each day. A quiet moment in the morning, a cooling sip in the afternoon, or simply something that asks us to slow down and listen to what the body needs.

Summer is associated with Pitta, the dosha linked with heat, intensity, and transformation. During the warmer months, Ayurveda encourages us to lean into rituals that feel cooling, hydrating, and soothing.

This simple refresher brings together chia seeds, fresh mint, and aromatic spices for an easy ritual to reach for when the heat calls for a little more balance.

Besides being an excellent source of gut-friendly fibre, chia seeds soften into a delicate gel when soaked, creating a naturally refreshing texture. Add fresh mint, lemon, cardamom, ginger, and a touch of honey for a bright, refreshing summer sip.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Serves: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 cup cool or room-temperature water

Add-ins (Optional)

  • Squeeze of fresh lemon
  • 3–4 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cardamom pod, lightly crushed, or a pinch of ground cardamom
  • Small piece of fresh ginger, thinly sliced or grated
  • 1 tsp honey, or to taste

How to Make It

1. Bloom the chia seeds
Add the chia seeds to 1 cup of cool or room-temperature water. Stir well to prevent clumping and let sit for 10–15 minutes, stirring once or twice, until the seeds soften and bloom.

2. Add your mix-ins
Once the chia seeds have softened, add your choice of fresh lemon, mint leaves, cardamom, and a little ginger.

3. Sweeten, if desired
Add a touch of honey for subtle sweetness and stir well.

4. Sip slowly
Enjoy cool or at room temperature, allowing this simple summer ritual to become a moment to slow down, refresh, and reconnect.
