Skincare Q&A: Your Top Skincare Questions Answered!

Whether you’re building a go-to skincare routine or searching for your next holy grail product, skincare shopping can feel intimidating. Throw in a constant stream of new, viral trends on social media and the decision fatigue kicks in (big time). But not to worry, the Sahajan team is here to help!

We’re answering your most frequently asked questions and concerns to help you feel empowered as you shop for your new skincare essentials.

Q1: Are Sahajan Products Safe for Pregnancy?

Yes! All of our products are pregnancy safe and safe to use while breastfeeding. When pregnant, it’s important to avoid active ingredients, such as retinol, in your skincare routine. During pregnancy, there are typically hormonal changes which may make your skin more sensitive and prone to hyperpigmentation, so use SPF and swatch any new products before use! And as always, check with your doctor if there are any ingredients that you cannot use specifically.

Fun fact: Lisa created Sahajan while she was expecting her second child. Her mission to create clean, clinically proven Ayurvedic products began when she saw her daughter covered in her skincare and was worried about the effects chemicals in conventional products could have on the skin.

Q2: Can I use my retinol serums with my Sahajan routine?

Yes, of course. While we don’t have a retinol product in our line (yet), you’re absolutely able to integrate your retinol serums with your Sahajan products. Our recommendation is to follow up with your retinol products with our Nourish Crème Riche and/or The Beauty Oil to deeply hydrate and nourish the skin.

Skincare tip: Make sure to only use retinol products at night and follow up with an SPF during the day to avoid harming your skin!

Q3: What is Double Cleansing?

Double cleansing is the routine of cleansing your skin twice – beginning with an oil-based cleanser and then following up with a water-based cleanser. You may have heard of double cleansing on social media, but this trending technique is raved about for good reason!

How do you double cleanse? Massage an oil-based cleanser, like the Essential Cleansing Oil, into your skin. The oil will break up waterproof mascaras and eyeliners in ease, while also removing your SPF and pollutants from the day. Once you see the makeup begin to break up, wet your hands and continue massaging to emulsify the oil into a milky texture. Rinse your skin and then cleanse your skin again with a water-based cleanser, like the Golden Milk Cleanser.

Why double cleanse? The Sahajan Team loves to double cleanse - and here’s why! The first cleanse with the oil-based cleanser focuses on melting off makeup and SPF while the second water-based cleanser focuses on actually cleansing the skin thoroughly. The best part - your skin is prepped and ready for the rest of your skincare products to actually penetrate deeper into your skin.

Fun fact: You can only remove SPF with oil-based cleansers and balms.

Should I double cleanse everyday? It depends. If you’re wearing a full face of makeup, we recommend double cleansing to reap the benefits of double cleansing. If you’re acne prone, or looking to even skin tone and texture, yes double cleanse!

Q4: Are your products safe for Melasma?

Melasma is a common skin condition that causes patches and spots on the cheeks, chin and nose that are darker than your natural skin tone.

First, we always recommend checking with your doctor or dermatologist when it comes to melasma, as it’s usually related to something internal.

That being said, we do have some products that our customers with melasma have loved! Here’s what we recommend from our line: Our Brightening Mask contains AHAs to help remove dry skin cells to combat dull skin and tulsi, also known as holy basil, helps with hyperpigmentation to brighten the complexion.

Other products to check out are our Radiance Face Serum and Nourish Crème Riche, which contain vitamin c-rich ingredients, like Triphala to help with hyperpigmentation.

We also recommend wearing SPF daily to protect the skin and prevent further damage to the skin.
